Just what I wanted by Pick McGwirk I am delighted with this little machine. It is a very light travel companion. I do webmaster work, and this is the lightest, smallest machine I know of that can still be equipped usefully to read email, surf the web, and even do some emergency web maintenance if called for. Note that I do have smallish hands, so the size of the keyboard is not the issue for me that it might be for some.
A few Google clicks got me to all the information I needed to get my Sprint U720 working, and get the GIMP and MySQL Query Browser installed and running, allowing me to see to all the essential tasks of taking care of a web site remotely. Open Office can handle Word and Excel documents. The text editor included with the machine has line numbering and even markup highlighting, and the file manager can be used to manage FTP. So, for pennies more than $300, I have the tiny portable keep-in-touch computer I’ve been wanting, and it’s also fully capable for web site maintenance or even the occasional crisis!
Am I sorry I didn’t get bigger memory version of the machine? No, because by getting the smallest configuration available, and having that work as I need it to, means the bang-for-the-buck ratio is terrific!
Good computer, but slow processor by Dame Droiture I found that this little guy does most of what I’d want a regular notebook to do (word processing, pdf viewing, web browsing), but be forewarned: the battery life is low (about 3 hours, depending), the screen is utterly minuscule (the mostly-unnecessary speakers take up about 20% of what could be more screen), I STILL cannot adjust the mouse settings to where it can actually feel my tap on the first try in many cases, and the processor is painfully slow. The computer starts up quickly, sure, but it takes longer to run OpenOffice!!
This is all you really need in an Internet Device, Plus! by Bobio5k This is the perfect laptop PC for someone that likes
to travel lite or just needs the basics. Everything
works. I have a few complaints; no modem or usb-modem
that works right. And the touch pad is only fair, you really
need a usb mouse.
Asus eee 4g Surf - - Just what I wanted by Terry Lesh I wanted a handy little computer to surf the net and show and tell stuff while traveling in our travel trailer, and around the house. I build boats as a hobby and go to many wooden boat shows, so have lots of pics to share. I belong to many interest groups and like to keep up and communicate. The Asuseee Surf is great, like they say “works right out the box.” WiFi access is quick and strong every place I have been. The machine is very quick, as good or better than my up to date home pc. I was somewhat concerned about having to learn a new OS, but there really is nothing to learn. All the user interfaces are graphic, you just click on what you want.
Even the Asus updates are automatic in the “Update” icon. I’m totally happy with the machine, an excellent buy. No problems. Easy to add extra storage memory. There are user groups to chat with on maximizing use. The Asus website is full of all kinds of stuff. Customer support is quick and excellent - 24/7. I especially like it over other low priced notebooks like Dell and so on, because it is all flash driven. No moving parts except for small totally silent fan. The only addition I would like to see is a waterproof model to use on my boat for navigation — therefore I need some gps and navigation plug ins too.
